Social media success

  • Post at least once every 2-3 days, and highlight anything interesting or special happening at your business… New products, new menu items, a big crowd for dinner service, outfit examples, etc. Posting multiple times a day will result in less attention given to each post, so don’t waste your good content on only one day!

  • Images & video are important - especially on Instagram and Facebook! Take quality photos of your products, food, storefront, employees, etc. like the shot we have on this page.

  • Make Event Pages on Facebook to encourage RSVPing and social sharing. Keep pages up-to-date with announcements and new or pertinent event information such as where to park, where to buy tickets, a new feature, and more.

  • Consider putting dollars towards promotion! For just $1 a day, you can boost your posts or events, reading hundreds (possibly thousands) of new viewers. Set your distance parameters to as far as you like in New Haven and neighboring towns.

Looking for a photographer? Let us help. Town Green District can suggest a local photographer who we have worked with before.

creating quality content for social, websites & print

Professional photo and video offer the highest rates of engagement on social media and advertising because they are high quality, well-lit and feature your best products, however it is possible to create great content with your own camera.

Tips for taking better photos:

  • Use your best camera available, whether that be a digital camera or your phone.

  • Stay in focus! Many phone cameras focus on whatever you tap with your finger. Make sure you tap your photo subject to keep the image sharp. Most cameras will auto-blur the background, make a shot even better.

  • Lighting can make or break your shot. Food, clothing and jewelry photos need a lot of natural lighting to capture color and texture. Not possible to go outside? Move your subject close to a light source. Interiors of bars and restaurants will naturally be darker and more ambient - that is okay too, just keep your shot in focus.

  • Stay conscious of your backgrounds. Do you want people to see the new necklace in stock or focus on that cigarette butt in the background? It’s a busy night at your bar and you want to show it off, but is that person at the bar mid-bite from their burger? Take multiple shots from multiple angles to have more options.

  • Edit your photo to make up for non-professional cameras, not perfect lighting, off coloring, etc. We suggest downloading the free application VSCO and using that to edit your photos. It’s what we use for phone photos!

If you don’t have time or this is just not your forte, don’t worry! Consider hiring a local graphic designer. They are more than happy to realize your vision for you!

creating ads & Materials

Physical marketing materials and digital advertisements are an important part of spreading the word about your business or your business’ event. This may be a poster, postcard, flyer, digital ad, social post or all of the above.

Begin by doing some research - Google around for similar events and find examples of elements you enjoy in their posters, website and ads. Save any photos you find and make note of what you enjoy about them. Also, gather your “quality content” mentioned above to use where needed.

If you are able to create the design yourself - way to go! You have some awesome talent! You may use Photoshop, but a free, simple, user-friendly tool with pre-created templates is Canva.
