DOWNTOWN PROMENADES

In response to COVID-19, the City and Town Green partnered with local businesses to close lanes and street segments to facilitate outdoor dining and the pedestrian experience on College & Orange Streets. Town Green added some “pop” and additional safety measures to the closure with an eye-catching, colorful walkway and over 25 wooden bollards with greenery along each closure.

TEMPLE PLAZA BOLLARDS

The bollard lighting in Temple Plaza was on its last leg, keeping the plaza too dark at night for the popular downtown passageway and hang-out spot it has quickly become. To increase safety and nighttime visibility, Town Green District worked with the City of New Haven and neighboring restaurants and properties to select and install new efficient and modern lighting.

TEMPLE PLAZA TURF

In 2019, Town Green District installed artificial turf in Temple Plaza, just in time for the summer and the Happy Hour in the Plaza event series. The turf not only solved the Plaza’s drainage problem, but created a dry and comfortable surface that was used thoroughly. Creative seating and colorful umbrellas were also added.

STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS

Ambassadors work on special improvement projects repainting weathered poles and hydrants, identifying and correcting trip & slip hazards. Staff regularly assess Downtown lighting - storefronts, streetlights, and façade lighting to ensure a safe, inviting environment downtown. For anything we are unable to fix, Town Green writes official reports to City departments.
